Boats on the Untersee and the Rhine

Route: Kreuzlingen > Stein am Rhein > Schaffhausen

The 50-km-long run between Kreuzlingen and Schaffhausen is one of the prettiest boat rides in Europe. The unspoilt Rhine landscape and the idyllic Untersee which is part of Lake Constance make for an impressive nature experience. Pretty villages, medieval cities, cloisters, forts and castles speak of the long tradition and historical development this area has undergone. Many sights, such as the island Reichenau with its cloister (UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site) or the picturesque Old Town of Stein am Rhein, are all directly located on the Rhine. Even visiting the Rhine Falls (largest waterfall in Europe) can be ideally combined with a boat ride on the Untersee and the Rhine (Rhine Fall bus from Schaffhausen landing).

From April to October, four boats of the Schifffahrtsgesellschaft Untersee und Rhein (URh) are scheduled; they connect Kreuzlingen to Schaffhausen or vice-versa. The scheduled boats make a total of 17 stops in Switzerland and Germany. Onboard, the catering company Schifflein deck dich AG has an extensive number of dishes and drinks ready to feed the hungry. There is limited space available for bicycles. Apart from the scheduled cruises, the URh also offers fireworks and brunch cruises.
