Engadine Star

Route: Landquart > Klosters > Zernez > St. Moritz

Enjoy the wonderful panorama from the comfort of your seat on this two-hour-train ride. Start off in Landquart, climb the steep ascent to Klosters, pass through the Vereina tunnel, the world’s longest meter-gauge tunnel, to Zernez and St. Moritz. Up here, activities are manifold: hike in the Swiss National Park, where you can view pristine flora and fauna up close, take a stroll around Lake St. Moritz, through the Staz Forest or climb up to the local mountain Corviglia or visit the local Segantini Museum, dedicated to the artist whose paintings capture the area so well. St. Moritz offers plenty to do and the Engadine Star gives you six hours of time in case you want to take the train back the same day.

Option: From Zernez, you can alternatively take a Postbus over the Ofen Pass to the Val Müstair (Engadine-Meran Route Express). There, visit the famous cloister St. Johann, designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site, or continue on to Glurns, the charming medieval town in the neighbouring Vinschgau and on to Mals (Italy). Here, take the new Vinschgerbahn to Mediterranean Meran (www.sad.it; Swiss Travel System tickets are not valid).
