Get comfortable using the Swiss Travel System.

Are you travelling 1st or 2nd class?

Everything about the Swiss Travel System is first class, no matter whether you are sitting in first class or in second class. However, most trains in Switzerland offer two classes of comfort. When buying your ticket you will have to decide which one is for you. The same applies to boat routes on the lakes. In the Swiss Travel System, the price differential between 1st and 2nd class is around 50%.
First class offers you more space and a quieter journey. Your seats are a bit more comfortable, and you are assigned the upper deck on the ships. There is, however, no distinction between 1st and 2nd class in the dining cars, on Postbuses, and on some regional trains.
When buying your Swisspass, you’ll have to decide which class you want. Even if you choose second class, you always have the option of paying an extra charge for first class on a longer journey or on a panoramic route. This applies on long-distance trains and on ships, but not on regional trains.
